NT Warrior: Don't Mess With Mama Zap!

Plot Synopsis
This is your standard episode of NT Warrior on drugs. Count Zap stumbles into the old mansion he grew up in, I guess he really is a count, in Kingland (I think this is supposed to be Battle Network's version of England) broken down and depressed... possibly drunk, but this is a kids show. He comes into the horror visage of his mother, who is pissed that Count Zap has tarnished their name by repeatedly losing to MegaMan and Lan.

The last appearance of Lord Wily wasn't very clear on what happened to WWW at the end, but this episode lets us know that WWW fell apart and Wily is gone. Count Zap, or Jack as his mother calls him, has given up on his old WWW aspirations, and his mother demands that he take his revenge for their family's pride, and Zap reluctantly goes along with it.

Meanwhile, Lan is running to his bus which he almost misses due to waking up late. His alarm clock, which has his mother's voice telling him to wake up, went off too late (I wouldn't mention this, but it's important). Lan's bus just happens to be traveling nearby Zap's mansion when the bus gets overloaded with viruses that stop the bus and screw up the communications on it. Lan gets out and heads to Zap's mansion, uberknownst to him that Zap is planning a trap for him inside, and tries to use their phone.

No one appears to be inside at first, so Lan jacks MegaMan in to keep the alarm from going off. Count Zap finally wanders in, dressed up as an old maid (in great resemblance to his mother) and he convinces Lan to wander into a specific room. When Lan enters it, the windows bar up, the door slams, and a net battle terminal pops up out of the ground. Count Zap reveals himself to Lan and demands a Net Battle to settle the score once and for all! Lan is quite shocked, and sees that MegaMan is already stuck in the terminal, but to hell with it, Lan will take on Count Zap any day of the week!

This match up goes a bit different from normal though. This is an "Electric Feedback" match, invented by Mama Zap. In this match, any damage a net navi takes gets blasted to the Net Op through a blast of electricity! When MegaMan gets hit, Lan gets shocked quite a few bolts. He gets a few shots off on Zap, but Zap seems more used to getting shocked all to hell. Lan gains the upper hand, so Mama Zap helps out by rocking an electric guitar to blast Lan some more. One blast hits him hard enough to knock him unconcious and MegaMan is steps away from being deleted.

Knocked out of his backpack from the blast is Lan's alarm clock, which goes off and wakes him back up. He quickly sends a chip to MegaMan and wins the match, blasting the fuck out of Count Zap, and blowing up the entire mansion! Lan makes his way back to the bus and continues his trip. Count Zap wakes up some time later, his mother missing, and Maddy standing in front of him. She tells him Yahoot is getting everyone together and invites him to come along. Zap has finally found some peace with himself, and decides to join her.

Critique
Any episode centering around Count Zap is a winner already, and this is one of the only episode of Lan's trip around the world that is worth a damn watching. This is one of the best episodes of the show because of how crazy over the top it is. Count Zap is just so fucking insane, and Lan even has the best reactions to him, "you want to Net Battle? Uh... okaaaaay...?"

MegaMan and Lan have some good scenes early on as well, and I like how MegaMan is running with Lan, even though he doesn't have too. There's also no instant win style change button this time, and the electric feedback match is just too good of an idea to put Lan in some real danger this time. The ending also leaves a weird Psycho vibe, as it sort of hints that Count Zap's entire encounter with his mother might have just been a hallucination. That's a bit deep for this show, so let's give Count Zap the benefit of the doubt and say that his kick ass electric guitar shredding mom really was there!

Rating: Thumbs up!
