The future of the Zero series lies with the ZX series which is the furthest along in the Mega Man time-line of the current running series. With Zero's presumed death and ZX running right now, it doesn't seem very likely we'll see another game in this series.
Zero and ZX have the distinctions of only having games related directly to the time-line. There's no cell phone mini games, no misadventures of Fighting Fenrir, no ZX History Quiz Adventure. It's been 4 years since we had a new Zero game, and not a single Zero game made a transition to a new platform so I really doubt we'll ever see this series continue.
That said, years down the line we could see remakes, re-release package deals for new systems, maybe a Mega Man Zero Anniversary collection some time down the line? It should be noted that no where has it been officially stated that Zero had died from the Ragnarok crash, not even in the ZX series. I think the reason for this is to give the developers an out if they do decide to make another Zero game. You never know, the game could get re-released, do really well, and Capcom could flat out demand another one. Battle Network has been out of commission just as long as Zero and it could be on the verge of a come back in a series of DS games, so it's really hard to just write off this series for good. I wouldn't get my hopes up though, and frankly I think the ending of Zero 4 is just a bit more heroic if Zero sacrificed himself in it. If you do want one last memento of the series, pick up the Mega Man Zero Complete Works book, an excellent look into the artwork of the series.
